Description
What is the Double Strength Nasal Spray?
This is a double-strength nasal spray formulation of Melanotan II (MT-II) — a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). MT-II acts as a non-selective agonist at melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R), with its most extensively studied effect being the stimulation of melanogenesis the biological process by which melanin pigment is produced in skin and hair follicles.
This formulation contains 20mg MT-II in 10ml double the concentration of the standard nasal spray formulation. The nasal delivery route has been studied as an alternative to subcutaneous injection. Nasal mucosal absorption allows systemic peptide uptake without injection, though published pharmacokinetic data indicates lower and more variable bioavailability compared to the injectable route. The higher concentration provides greater dosing flexibility for research protocols.
What Researchers Are Exploring
Melanogenesis & Pigmentation
MT-II’s primary documented mechanism involves stimulation of MC1R on melanocytes, upregulating tyrosinase activity and driving melanin synthesis. Published studies have documented pigmentation responses across a range of baseline skin types and UV exposure conditions.
Melanocortin Receptor Pharmacology
As a non-selective melanocortin agonist, MT-II engages multiple receptor subtypes. Research has explored its binding affinities, receptor activation profiles, and the downstream signalling cascades associated with MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R — including effects on pigmentation, energy metabolism, sexual function, and neurological signalling.
Energy Regulation & Appetite
MC3R and MC4R activation by MT-II has been studied in the context of energy homeostasis and appetite signalling. The melanocortin system’s intersection with leptin signalling pathways positions MT-II as a relevant research tool in metabolic studies beyond pigmentation alone.
Nasal Peptide Delivery
The nasal mucosa provides direct vascular access to systemic circulation, bypassing hepatic first-pass metabolism. MT-II nasal spray formulations have been studied for comparative bioavailability relative to subcutaneous delivery — contributing to the broader field of non-invasive peptide administration research.
Sexual Function Research
MT-II’s activity at MC4R has been explored in the context of sexual arousal pathways, particularly in animal models and early human studies. This remains an active area of interest in melanocortin system research.
Worth Noting
This double-strength formulation provides 20mg MT-II across 10ml — suitable for research protocols requiring higher peptide concentration per spray or greater dosing flexibility without increasing spray volume.
