What is SS-31?
SS-31 — also known as Elamipretide, MTP-131, or Bendavia — is a synthetic tetrapeptide specifically designed to target mitochondria. Unlike most compounds that have a general effect throughout the body, SS-31 concentrates selectively in the inner mitochondrial membrane due to its unique structure, allowing it to directly influence cellular energy production at its source.
Mitochondria are the power plants of every cell — they produce the energy (ATP) that drives virtually all biological processes. As we age, mitochondrial function declines, contributing to reduced energy, slower recovery, and many hallmarks of aging. SS-31 was designed to address this decline at the most fundamental level.
