What is Kisspeptin?
Kisspeptin is a family of naturally occurring peptides produced primarily in the hypothalamus. They act as the “trigger” for the reproductive hormone axis — binding to the GnRH receptor and setting off a hormonal cascade that leads to the release of LH (luteinising hormone), FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), and ultimately sex hormones including testosterone and oestrogen.
Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest and most studied fragment of this peptide family. It retains the full biological activity of longer kisspeptin forms and has been the focus of a growing body of clinical and preclinical research due to its role as a master regulator of the reproductive system.

Reproductive Hormone Axis
The most well-established area of kisspeptin research is its ability to stimulate LH release. Studies have shown that kisspeptin-10 can produce a significant, rapid increase in LH levels — with effects measurable within 30 to 45 minutes of administration. This has made it a key focus in research on hormonal stimulation and reproductive endocrinology.
Fertility Research
Kisspeptin’s role in triggering the LH surge needed for ovulation has attracted significant interest in fertility research. Clinical studies have explored kisspeptin as a potential trigger agent for ovulation induction, with research suggesting it may produce an LH response that more closely mirrors the natural mid-cycle surge than existing methods.
Testosterone & Male Hormone Research
In males, the LH stimulation triggered by kisspeptin directly influences testosterone production in the testes. Research has explored kisspeptin’s potential relevance to studies on testosterone levels, HPG axis function, and male reproductive health.

Beyond hormone stimulation, research has examined kisspeptin’s broader influence on sexual behaviour and function. Studies have looked at its effects on sexual brain processing and arousal, with some research suggesting it may influence aspects of libido and sexual motivation at a neurological level.

More recent research has explored kisspeptin’s potential involvement in metabolic regulation. Studies in animal models have shown kisspeptin-10 reduced body weight and blood glucose levels, raising questions about its relevance to metabolic health research alongside its reproductive focus.
