What is Glutathione?
Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide made up of three amino acids — glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. It is produced naturally in the cells of every living organism and is considered the body’s master antioxidant. Its primary role is to neutralise free radicals and reactive oxygen species — unstable molecules that damage cells and accelerate ageing.
Unlike most antioxidants which are sourced from food, glutathione is produced internally and works directly within cells. Its levels naturally decline with age, chronic stress, poor diet, and illness — and research has explored whether supplementing with exogenous glutathione can help restore cellular protection and support broader health outcomes.
